ink+PAPER has been a bit quiet lately but lots has been going on behind the scenes. All will be revealed soon!
In the meantime, it’s spring! And that means a Comiket - ink+PAPER will be there this Saturday at Central St Martins for the brilliant FREE event. Lots of people selling lots of comics and some exciting big screen live drawing too! All the details for the Comica Festival including the Comiket are here. See you there!
Issue #3 is ready for pre-order!
In this winter issue of ink+PAPER, we’ve a veritable galaxy of comics and features for you to explore. Contributors include Joe Blann, Fred Blunt, Emma Carlisle, John Cei Douglas, Euan Cook, Emma Donnelly, Emma Evans, Fay & Marc Olivent, Sarah Graley, Dan Haycocks, Akvile Miseviciute, Nulsh, Julia Scheele & Chrissy Williams, Matt Sheret, Rebecca Tobin, Kelly Walton and Andrew Waugh. It’s been an absolute delight to put together (though next time I’ll be careful not to ask three Emmas – very confusing).
There’ll be previews soon, but first I have to announce our launch party which we’ll be hosting with our good friends at The Strumpet, who are launching their bumper second issue – check out the fantastic contributors over at the Strumpet blog.
Orbital Comics in London are generously providing the venue and we’re acting as the after-party for Bryan Talbot’s interview in Foyles, just down the road. We’re also the pre-party for the autumn Comiket, where i+P#3 will be on sale. Do come along if you can: 7pm on the 9th November at Orbital!
Four great international opportunities to get hold of a copy of i+P#1 this month (aside from the internet-based options):
- Ellen Lindner will be shilling at the Brooklyn Zine Fest on April 15th: http://www.brooklynzinefest.com/ alongside the fabulous The Strumpet.
- Cliodhna Lyons will have some copies at the wonderful Comiket in London on April 21st: http://www.comicafestival.com/index.php/events/detail/comica_comiket_independent_comics_fair/
- Both of these fine ladies will be at the amazing MoCCA in New York City on 28th-29th April: http://moccafest.org/
- i+P is available in the brilliant Lambiek in Amsterdam, the world’s first comic shop: http://lambiek.net/about.htm
Meanwhile, issue #2 lurches into life…
An official non-Twitter, non-Facebook thank you to everyone who came along to the launch party at Orbital Comics last Friday night. It was a great night and the response to the mag was very positive – lots were sold! There are some pics from the night on Facebook (can be viewed without logging in).
The Comiket on the following day was a brilliant, much-improved event. There was a real buzz to the day and very encouraging sales again. We’re now looking forward to Thought Bubble in Leeds – it’s the big one.
In other news, contributor Shug has made available some music to go with his comic Iris. It’s an atmospheric accompaniment to his bittersweet tale. And there were some nice words from Pop Culture Hound in their mention here.
Come one, come all! See you there!
Don’t forget the Comiket tomorrow, too! As well as i+P, there’ll be comics royalty in the form of HRH Posy Simmonds, who’ll be opening the event. Also there’ll be live drawing from other members of the nobility: Sarah McIntyre, Luke Pearson and Roger Langridge amongst many others (check out Sarah’s travel diary comic – she’ll have a very limited number of copies for sale). And i+P contributors Lizz Lunney, Dan Berry, Timothy Winchester, Joe Decie and Philippa Rice will also be exhibiting along with a host of top quality comics talent. It’s going to be an amazing day!
And if that doesn’t tickle your comics fancy, pop along to the South East London Zine Fest in glittering New Cross, also on Saturday, for cutting edge DIY publishing at its best! Phew! I’ve a feeling Sunday will be a duvet day…
